Captain without a team

Once upon a time there was a captain who thought he had a team. He was asked to fight a giant who lived in the neighbourhood who was constantly robbing the people of their crop and produce and never allowed them to live in peace. This captain faithfully prepared for the war and set forth to teach this giant a lesson he'd never forget. so that he'll never again attack the people, However, just as he was preparing for battle, some of the team members who had asked him to go to battle started questioning the methods being used and asked him to submit detailed plans.
This captain took on this additional responsibility and submitted all the required information. However because he got delayed for the war, the giant had grown larger and stronger than before and so beat the captain after a prolonged fight.
The wounded captain had to lick his wounds and look around for a fresh strategy and support to combat this giant. Just as he was preparing to launch the 2nd offensive, again the same few team members called him to give an explanation of his earlier failures as well as details about the new plan along with a guarantee of success.
This again put back the captain by valuable time that he could ill afford. At this weakened state, he wondered are these people really part of my team or the giant's. Have they been planted by the giant to allow him to live in peace and eat and grow from the earnings of the people? These few people were only sowing doubts in people's minds and sapping the energy of the captain and the team that was going to fight for the village.
What do you think? Are these people who were questioning the captain really interested in saving the village? or were they pretending to be concerned so the giant can win?
